General Software Questions

Q1.
Will Advensys make software modifications if I really need something doing, which is out of the ordinary and I’m prepared to pay for it?
A1.
Yes. However, as we have just one version of our software, these enhancements will be rolled into the standard software and be parameter controlled in order to "switch them off" elsewhere.
Q2.
Does the Advensys System get regular enhancements?
A2.
Yes. We are constantly enhancing the functionality.
Q3.
Who installs the software enhancements?
A3.
Advensys personnel. There is never a need for customer staff to be concerned with upgrades to software.
Q4.
How will I know when a new enhancement has become available?
A4.
We publish release notes detailing what we have done.
Q5.
I understand that I can rent my “heavy duty” application software and I love the idea. But will Advensys rent me the Microsoft Office products for use on each desktop or are they a capital item I must buy myself?
A5.
No. We will not rent these items. However, we would recommend our customers try the excellent - and absolutely free - Open Office. This is very high quality software which offers Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Drawing and Presentation software.
Q6.
I know that I can access my company information from anywhere with an Advensys system, but what about my emails? If I use a desktop PC when I’m in the office, can I see the same emails when I’m working at home?
A6.
Yes. The server we install at the customer’s premises performs email functions. It is an IMAP server, meaning that any emails received stay on the server (until purged). When in the office these are best accessed with an email client such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird. When out of the office they are accessed using the web browser and an application called SquirrelMail, which we configure into the server.
Q7.
When I am out of the office and send an email using SquirrelMail, will I have a record of that email when I am next in the office?
A7.
Yes.
Q8.
Who is responsible for Antivirus Software?
A8.
The customer is responsible for protecting his own PCs and laptops. However, the centralized email system we provide does scan all incoming and outgoing emails for viruses.
